Updated Sep 28, 2026: Release date reconfirmed at Take-Two’s Sept 17 shareholder meeting, preload and code-in-a-box details added, and the Game Informer cover story drops tomorrow.

Quick answer: GTA 6 comes out Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s $79.99 (Standard) or $99.99 (Ultimate), preloading starts Nov 12, and there’s still no PC version. Everything else we know, plus what Rockstar still isn’t saying, is below.

After two delays, three official videos and roughly a decade of Reddit threads, GTA 6 finally has a date that feels real. Pre-orders are live, the preload day is set and Take-Two keeps repeating Nov 19 to anyone who’ll listen, investors included. So let’s get into it: the date, the price, the map, Jason and Lucia, the PC question, GTA Online, and the stuff that’s honestly bugging us.

GTA 6 release date and how we got here

Nov 19 is the third date this game has had, and the first one that comes with pre-orders, a preload day and a price tag attached. Here’s the short version of a very long wait:

  • Feb 4, 2022: Rockstar confirms that “active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway” (Gematsu has the full Newswire statement).
  • Dec 4, 2023: Trailer 1 arrives with a “2025” release window, set to Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road”.
  • May 2025: Rockstar delays the game to May 26, 2026 and follows it with Trailer 2 a few days later.
  • Nov 6, 2025: A second delay moves it to Nov 19, 2026. Rockstar’s post on X apologized for “adding additional time” and said the extra months were for polish (Variety covered it the same day).
  • June 25, 2026: Pre-orders open, with prices and editions confirmed.
  • Aug 6, 2026: Take-Two’s quarterly results reaffirm Nov 19 and $8.0–8.2 billion in expected net bookings for the fiscal year.
  • Aug 27, 2026: The Extended Look premieres on Netflix, then YouTube.
  • Sep 17, 2026: At Take-Two’s annual shareholder meeting, CEO Strauss Zelnick confirms the Nov 19 date again.

Could it slip a third time? Anything can happen, but at this point a delay would mean refunding pre-orders, redoing retail plans and walking back a dated preload. We’d be genuinely shocked.

Price, editions and the pre-order bonus

The official pricing is $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate. That $80 base price puts GTA 6 at the very top of the console market, and every other publisher is watching to see if people just… pay it.

  • Standard Edition ($79.99): the game.
  • Ultimate Edition ($99.99): adds premium vehicles, weapons, clothing and “action” that Rockstar says is threaded through Jason and Lucia’s story, instead of dumped in your garage on day one.
  • Pre-order bonus: the Vintage Vice City Pack, for anyone who pre-orders or buys before Nov 20. Digital pre-orders also get a free month of GTA+.
  • The Vice City Collection: a limited collector’s set listed on Rockstar’s GTA 6 site while supplies last.

Heads-up for disc collectors: the “physical” edition is a download code in a box. No disc. More on that below, because we have thoughts.

When can you preload GTA 6?

Digital pre-orders can start downloading on Thursday, Nov 12, a full week before launch, per the pre-order announcement. The boxed code editions ship that same day, so boxed buyers can redeem and preload too.

Rockstar hasn’t published the file size or the exact unlock time yet (midnight local time vs. one global moment). We’ll add both here the second they’re out. In the meantime, clear some space. This one won’t be small.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Not at launch, and not officially at all yet. Every official announcement lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Asked about PC at the shareholder meeting, Zelnick said Take-Two generally aims to release on any platform with a meaningful audience and that PC is becoming “more and more important” to the company. That’s not a commitment, a version or a date.

History says: wait. GTA 5 hit PC about 19 months after its PS3/360 launch, and Red Dead Redemption 2 took about a year. Rockstar sells the console version first, then sells it again. We fully expect the same playbook here, and we’ll update this section the day there’s an announcement.

Trailers and the Netflix “Extended Look”

There are three big official videos. Trailer 1 (December 2023) introduced Lucia and Vice City. Trailer 2 (May 2025) put Jason and Lucia together as a couple on the run. And on Aug 27, 2026, Rockstar went full Hollywood: Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET, then hit Rockstar’s YouTube channel and the GTA 6 site at 9 p.m. ET, according to Game Informer. It runs just under half an hour and was captured in-game on PS5. If you haven’t watched it yet, here it is:

Leonida and Vice City: the map so far

GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, Rockstar’s version of Florida, with Vice City (Miami) as the main event. It’s the first numbered GTA set there since Vice City in 2002 (the PSP’s Vice City Stories revisited it in 2006), and the first time Rockstar has built a whole state around the city.

Rockstar has named six regions of Leonida so far:

  • Vice City: the neon, the beaches, the money.
  • Leonida Keys: an island chain of bars, boats and beach bums.
  • Grassrivers: the Everglades stand-in. Airboats, swamps, gators.
  • Port Gellhorn: a faded resort town that’s seen better days.
  • Ambrosia: industrial sugar country, with bikers and small-town politics.
  • Mount Kalaga National Park: forests, trails and dirt bikes.

Rockstar hasn’t given an official map size, so ignore anyone quoting square miles like it’s gospel. What the videos do show is density: crowds on Ocean Drive-style streets, jammed highways and wildlife in the swamps. Game Informer’s cover story (see below) is teasing a lot more on weather and wildlife.

Fun footnote: back in 2018, this very site ran a rumor that GTA 6 would be set in Vice City. Eight years later, it’s the one piece of GTA gossip that aged perfectly.

Jason and Lucia

Lucia Caminos is the first woman to headline a GTA since the series went 3D, and she shares the spotlight with Jason Duval. Rockstar’s pitch: an easy score goes wrong and drops them into a criminal conspiracy that stretches across Leonida (per Netflix’s Extended Look page). The trailers sell them as a Bonnie-and-Clyde couple, which is a totally different engine from GTA 5’s three separate guys whose paths happen to cross.

Both of them are on the cover of Game Informer’s upcoming issue in new Rockstar artwork.

What about GTA Online?

This is the biggest open question. Rockstar and Take-Two have marketed GTA 6 as a single-player game so far and haven’t detailed a new GTA Online. What they have said is that the current one isn’t going anywhere: on the August earnings call, Zelnick said Take-Two expects “to support GTA Online going forward”, and he repeated it at the shareholder meeting (TweakTown). That’s also why the pre-order bonus includes a free month of GTA+.

Our read: expect a new online mode after launch, not on day one, the same way GTA Online followed GTA 5 by two weeks and Red Dead Online followed RDR2 by a month. Treat any specific date you see floating around as rumor until Rockstar says it.

Let’s be real: what’s bugging us about GTA 6

We’re counting down the days like everyone else. But hype shouldn’t mean switching your brain off, so here’s what we’d push back on:

  • The $80 precedent. GTA 6 will sell like crazy at $79.99, and that’s exactly the problem. Once the biggest game of the decade normalizes $80, expect plenty of games that are not GTA 6 to try the same price tag.
  • A “physical edition” with no disc. A download code in a box isn’t a physical game. You can’t play it without downloading, and it’s a weird move to sell collectors a piece of cardboard for the biggest launch in years.
  • PC players, once again, get told to wait. “More and more important” is investor-speak, not a release date. Selling the same game twice on a delay is great business and a rough deal for anyone who games on PC.
  • Two delays and a lot of silence. Rockstar apologized both times, and the extra polish may well be worth it. But the company still hasn’t said much about GTA Online’s future, file size or launch timing, and fans have had to piece things together from earnings calls.

To be fair, none of this changes the big picture. The date is the most solid it’s ever been, Take-Two’s entire financial year is built around it (it reaffirmed $8.0–8.2 billion in expected net bookings), and everything shown so far looks ridiculous in the best way. GTA 5 kept people busy for over a decade. If GTA 6 even gets close, $80 will feel like a bargain in hindsight. We just want the rest of the industry to remember it’s not GTA.

What’s next

  • Sep 29: Game Informer’s 14-page GTA 6 cover story goes live digitally, with interviews and 12 new screenshots. It’s focused on Leonida, the weather system and a lot of wildlife, per Push Square. We’ll add the highlights here.
  • Nov 12: Preload opens, and boxed code editions ship.
  • Review embargo: not announced. Rockstar reportedly won’t send review codes home and will host reviewers on-site instead. That’s a rumor, and Rockstar hasn’t commented.
  • Nov 19: Launch day.
  • Dec 10: The Game Awards 2026. A Nov 19 launch probably scrapes into the eligibility window, but whether voters get enough time with it is another story; GameSpot has laid out the timing problem.

We’ll keep this page updated through launch, and the day a PC version gets announced. Now tell us in the comments: Standard or Ultimate, and are you playing as Lucia or Jason first?
