The newest DC Rebirth event has kicked off this week and its the sequel to the famous Judas Contract. The Lazarus Contract is the newest DC comic event that combines the teams of Titans, Teen Titans and Deathstroke to bring this story revolving Deathstroke using Pre Flashpoint Wally to bring back his son Grant from the dead. It has also already been confirmed that during this story Slade will get Speed Force Powers. This review will have spoilers so please be warned.

The story kicks off with a flashback showing us Grant taking on the Titans back in the day and beating them with easy. Grant then has a heart attack and dies during the battle with Slade taking back his son promising he will repay the Titans for killing his son. We than cut to Slade waking up in the hospital after getting Corneal Transplant with Wintergreen telling him he was saying Grant’s name in his sleep.  Slade tells Wintergreen to get the chopper ready to head to New York with Wintergreen telling him his kids are good expect with Grant being dead.

The Titans are then fighting a group of heavily armed bad guys thinking they were HIVE. Omen then reads their minds and finds out they are not HIVE leading Nightwing to start questioning one of them. The hired muscle reveals that they were just hired and that the the deal is off with only giving the name Lazarus. The Titans then realized Wally was taken in broad daylight.

Its revealed Slade has taken Wally and has hooked him up to a treadmill that can make Wally run and tell the truth. Deathstroke than tells Wally he has a deal he wants to make with him if Wally helps him out. The Titans are mean while talking about how they can get Wally back with Lilith questioning Dick if he knows anything. Dick ask if she is trying to read his mind but she tells him she can’t because his mind is hard to even crack. Dick storms off saying he doesn’t know anything with Lilith mention that Dick is lying.

Slade in the mean time is getting more information about the Speed Force learning that Flashes can time travel. When Wally realizes what Slade is trying to he breaks out telling Slade he can’t go back to save Grant and that he has to move on. Slade than offers to stop being Deathstroke if Wally is willing to go back in time to save Grant. Wally than tells him he cant with Slade revealing he captured the other Wally as a back up with the other Wally finding out that the OG Wally name is the same as Wally.

This Lazarus Contract story started really great in my view.  Slade willing to give everything up for his son says a lot about his character while also having Dick lying to the group setting up an interesting story for him and the rest of the Titans. The new Wally finding out that Pre Flashpoint Wally has the same name as him will set things up not only for both Wally but will also set up stories with both of them and Barry. I can not wait for the Teen Titans to join the story to see how both teams work together. Slade is the highlight of the issue being able to be Slade and capture both Wallys and able to make a machine to get information from a Speedster.  – Johnathan Brin
