Now that we have all seen Thor: Ragnarok and the many trailers leading up to it we know a major plot thread of that movie is Thor loses his iconic hammer Mjolnir when it’s decimated by the Goddess of Death, Hela.
When we all learned Thor loses his famous weapon fans immediately began speculating if, when, and how he would get it back. SuperBroMovies may have come upon not all, but some pretty cool new details about Thor’s new weapon in the follow up to Thor: Ragnarok. A source from the production of Avengers: Infinity War has provided us with some details on Thor’s new weapon.
SPOILER WARNING FOR AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR
In the concept art below from Avengers: Infinity War Thor’s new weapon features a much longer handle forcing many to speculate we may get the Ultimates version of Mjolnir or the God Killing Ax Jarnbjorn.
While we don’t know exact details on how, what we here at SuperBroMovies have learned is that Thor does, in fact, get a new Hammer in Avengers: Infinity War. Our source has informed us Thor crafts a new Hammer, and while that’s cool, it isn’t the most interesting part of this story. Apparently, he only has the head of the hammer and nothing to use as a handle.
So what is a God of Thunder to do with a handleless hammer?
Thanks to Groot and what we can only assume is an act of friendship and comradery, the living tree, cuts off his arm and hands it to Thor, who then uses it as the handle for his new hammer. This also seems to line up with a quote from actor and stuntman Terry Notary who did the motion capture for Teenage Groot, as he hints that young Groot will have a mentor in Avengers: Infinity War, Thor maybe?
“I am playing teenage Groot,” related Notary. “I can’t say too much about him, but he’s coming of age, so you’ll see the teenager find a mentor to look up to and to model himself after. The character’s great, and the films are going to be great.”
I know not an internet breaking scoop, but still, cool none the less as it shows a building bond between these characters and possibly gives Thor’s hammer some regenerative properties.
Let us know what you think of this revelation in the comments below. And maybe share your theories on how Thor gets a new hammerhead.
Avengers: Infinity War brings the cataclysm to theaters on April 25th, 2018.
“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.”
