Updated Sep 28, 2026: Prices and edition contents rechecked, plus the $399.99 Vice City Collection and Take-Two’s latest comments on pre-orders.
Here’s the GTA 6 price in one line: $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, launching Nov 19, 2026. Pre-order or buy before Nov 20 and you also get the Vintage Vice City Pack. Is $80 worth it? For most people, the Standard Edition is the one to get. It’s the whole game, and the extra $20 for Ultimate buys you cars, guns, clothes and shops, not more story. The more interesting question is what $80 means for every big game that comes after it.
If you just need the date, preload day and the rest of the basics, our GTA 6 release date hub has everything. This page is all about your wallet.
GTA 6 price and editions at a glance
| Option | Price (US) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | $79.99 | The full single-player game |
| Ultimate Edition | $99.99 | The game plus exclusive vehicles, weapons, clothing, shops and side content spread through the story |
| Pre-order bonus (any edition) | Free | Vintage Vice City Pack, for purchases before Nov 20 |
| Digital pre-order extra | Free | One month of GTA+ |
| The Vice City Collection | $399.99 | Physical collectibles only, no copy of the game |
You can buy it on the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and at retailers, per Take-Two’s pre-order announcement. One heads-up on the boxed version: it’s a download code in a box, with no disc at launch. Physical copies go on sale Nov 12 so you can preload.
What the Standard Edition gets you
The game. That’s it, and honestly, that’s the point. Take-Two’s announcement calls the single-player game “the biggest, most immersive evolution” of the series. It’s Jason and Lucia’s story across all of Leonida, which our GTA 6 map explainer breaks down region by region. Nothing in the story is locked behind the Ultimate Edition. What Ultimate adds is stuff to use along the way.
What’s in the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition
Rockstar’s official pitch is “an exclusive collection of items threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story”. In practice, the items unlock chapter by chapter instead of all landing on day one. Here’s the list as TheSixthAxis rounded it up from Rockstar’s reveal:
- A ’67 Vapid Dominator buggy that comes with the Paradise Garage
- A ’95 Grotti Cheetah sports car
- A Shitzu Squalo boat with a weapons crate
- Hawk & Little Morgan revolver variants
- Exclusive vehicle mods at two customization shops, plus classic car restoration missions and four exclusive vehicle projects
- Access to the Stock 305 clothing store, Sara’s Unisex Salon and the Electric Fang tattoo parlor
- More than 50 tattoo designs by the art collective FAILE
So it’s a lot of cosmetics and toys, plus some extra side content in those restoration missions and vehicle projects. Useful? Sure. Essential? Nothing Rockstar has shown says so.
GTA 6 pre-order bonuses
Everyone who pre-orders or buys before Nov 20 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack, no matter which edition. Take-Two calls it “a collection of items that flash back to when the neon burned brightest”. Per TheSixthAxis, that means a ’55 Vapid Stanier with the Shore Court Garage, two exclusive outfits each for Jason and Lucia, and a tropical pattern for most guns.
Digital pre-orders also get one free month of GTA+, which Take-Two says is instantly redeemable in GTA 5 and other Rockstar games. TheSixthAxis reports that month also drops GTA$500,000 into your GTA Online character’s bank account. Since it’s a GTA 5-era perk, it’s a nice bonus, not a reason to buy.
The $80 precedent: how we got here
GTA 6 isn’t the first $80 game, but it’s the biggest one by far. Here’s the short history:
- April 2025: Nintendo prices Mario Kart World at $79.99 for the Switch 2 launch, making it the first big console game to break the $70 ceiling.
- July 23, 2025: Microsoft tries $80 with The Outer Worlds 2, then backs down after the backlash. The price drops to $69.99, and Xbox says it’ll keep its full-priced holiday games at $69.99, per Windows Central.
- June 25, 2026: GTA 6 pre-orders open at $79.99.
- August 2026: Take-Two’s own NBA 2K27 stays at $70. On the earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick said the goal is “to deliver way more value to consumers than what we charge them,” and that given the hype, the company “could have made any number of other pricing choices” (Kotaku).
That last point is the tell. Take-Two isn’t making $80 the new normal across its lineup. It’s saying GTA can charge more because it’s GTA. And fans are paying. Zelnick told CNBC that pre-orders are “skewing more to the Premium Edition”, though he added that the earliest buyers are the most hardcore fans. He also said Take-Two has no plans to cut the price, and that it can’t control what retailers discount.
What $80 gets you compared with other big games
We can’t tell you how many hours GTA 6 lasts. Nobody outside Rockstar has finished it. But here’s what we can compare:
- Against the old GTAs: the inflation math actually favors GTA 6. TheGamer ran the numbers fans were sharing, and GTA 5’s $59.99 launch price works out to about $85.86 today. GTA 4 lands around $93.58.
- Against Mario Kart World: same $79.99, but GTA 6 is a giant open-world story game. If you already paid $80 for a kart racer, $80 for this is an easy call.
- Against most other big releases: $70 is still the standard, including Microsoft’s holiday games and Take-Two’s own NBA 2K27. GTA 6 costs $10 more than basically everything else on the shelf.
- Against its own track record: GTA 5 has sold about 230 million copies across three console generations, per Zelnick via VGC. Rockstar games tend to stick around for a decade, which makes the per-year cost look pretty tiny.
Standard or Ultimate: which should you buy?
Based on what’s been announced, here’s our take:
- Get Standard if you care about the story and the world. You’re not missing any main missions, and the pre-order pack gives you a free car, garage and outfits anyway.
- Consider Ultimate if you’re a car and customization person who’ll live in the garages and tattoo parlors, or if you know you’ll play for hundreds of hours. The Cheetah, the restoration missions and the extra shops are aimed right at you.
- Wait if you’re a PC player. There’s still no PC version announced, and our GTA 6 PC explainer explains why console-first is Rockstar’s habit.
Let’s be real: the pricing isn’t as friendly as Take-Two says
Zelnick has called the $80 price an “incredible bargain,” per TechRadar. Maybe the game will earn that. But a few things about how it’s being sold deserve some side-eye:
- $80 for a code in a box. The boxed version is a download code with no disc at launch. So you’re paying the highest standard price in the industry and getting less physical ownership than you did with GTA 5. No disc also means no easy resale.
- The Ultimate items are woven into the story on purpose. Unlocking extras chapter by chapter is smart design, and it’s also smart marketing. Every time a Standard player sees a locked shop or a Cheetah they can’t have, that’s a nudge to upgrade.
- A $400 box with no game in it. The Vice City Collection costs $399.99 and includes a Macca the Gator figure, Oakley sunglasses, a New Era hat, pins and a poster, but not the game. Not even a code.
- The inflation argument only goes so far. Yes, GTA 6 is cheaper than GTA 5 in 2013 dollars. But as TheGamer points out, that math ignores rent, wages that haven’t kept up, and the cost of the console you need to play it.
- It will shape what everything else costs. If the biggest game of the decade sells tens of millions of copies at $80, other publishers will take notice, even if Take-Two keeps its own sports games at $70 for now.
To be fair, Take-Two could have gone to $100 for the base game, and some in the industry were hoping it would. It didn’t. And the pre-order bonus goes to everyone, not just Ultimate buyers. That’s more generous than a lot of big launches.
