With the Blu-ray release of Avengers: Infinity War fast approaching rumors are beginning to spread of what will be included in the disc. And one such rumor comes directly from the creator of Thanos himself, Jim Starlin. According to Starlin, we may see roughly 30 extra minutes of completed footage detailing Thanos’ backstory.
During a panel at Las Vegas Comic Con moderated by Collider’s Jon Schnepp, it was revealed that the Russo Brothers shot about 30 minutes of completed footage detailing Thanos’ backstory. However, sadly this footage was cut and didn’t make its way into the film. But this may not be a complete loss as Starlin went on to say that he believes the extra footage will be incorporated into a new cut of the movie for the Blu-ray release.
According to Collider, they believe this will serve as a special edition of the home media release, hopefully before the release of Marvel Studios Avengers 4. This would definitely be great to see as one thing fans mentioned they had seen more of in Infinity War was the Mad Titan’s origins. So if it is true that these additional 30 minutes of footage exist, incorporating it into an alternate cut of the film would be a great move by Marvel.
However, we should still take this report with a grain of salt as Jim Starlin has not been a great source of information in the past. Recently, the creator retracted his previous statements concerning another of his characters appearing in Avengers 4. But for now we will simply have to take him at his word, so stay tuned to SuperBroMovies for any updates.
