RUMOR: Matt Smith To Play Young Palpatine In ‘STAR WARS: EPISODE IX’

A classic Star Wars character could be making their return to the series. According to James of The Weekly Planet Podcast, Doctor Who alum Matt Smith may be playing a young Sheev Palpatine in Episode IX

During the show’s “Hot Scoop or Shot of Poop” segment, Mr. Sunday Movies revealed that a source, who is close to the production of Episode IX, claims that Smith will be bringing the Emperor back to the big screen. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumblings that the iconic villain could make his return in next year’s film.

Smith singed onto the film in August, in what has been described as a vital role. His character has remained a mystery since then, with many speculating he could be a member of the First Order. If there is any validity to this rumor, it could explain the hype that surrounds his involvement.

Palpatine was introduced as a hologram in The Empire Strikes Back, played by Marjorie Eaton. Since then, the character has been portrayed by Ian McDiarmid. We haven’t seen Darth Sidious in live-action since his rise to power in Revenge of the Sith, although, he was name-dropped by Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi, potentiality laying the groundwork for his return.

  1. GUYS let’s not forget that A) Matt Smith is a brilliant actor, B) He could be playing a clone of Palpatine which would be badasfuck! Think about it! This means they are listening to the fans, and bringing in stories from the “legends books” in those books which fans worldwide want back in cannon “Legend has it!” HA!

That Palpatine used clones of himself so he could continue from behind the scenes so his death in Episode 6 could have been one of many clones….. This would be a brilliant way to tie it all together… I’m 100% in if THIS is the route they go. PLUS his voice can come off a lot like Ian McDiarmid.

This is exciting news fans! IF Again this is the route JJ goes I’m all in… Why must you fanboys online always be so god damn SW negative these days? Matt Smith is an awesome dude, and actor. Let’s see this could also set up a potential follow up trilogy! And Ray would be his daughter or creation or sister! WOW!

    1. I’m star wars negative because the plot makes no sense what so ever, and there is zero character development. In the original series, luke goes through training. In the next series Anakin goes through training. Hell even han and Leighs son goes through training. But ray comes along and she is good at everything? Makes zero sense. Lukes story? Zero fucking sense. From what we know of his character, it makes no sense as to why he would abandon the rest of the universe. Leigh surviving space makes no sense. Matt smith is an amazing actor, but it would take more than that for me to see the movie. They need to fix the plot…

  2. I would like to see, a good fucking film. Not this cut and past with hard to follow plot in it with forced agendas in it. I’m doubting I even want to see the next star wars films because the plots make no sense. If Matt smith gets a role in star wars good on him, but unless they fix their plot and make it solid, its going to be a flop because again, I’m not even sure I want to see it.
