Updated Sep 28, 2026: added Dynamic Duo’s move to Sep 22, 2028, HBO’s comments on the DC TV slate and James Gunn’s Gorilla Grodd timing. We’ll update this list whenever DC Studios dates, moves or drops a project.
Here’s every upcoming DC movie and show we know about, in order. The short version: Clayface opens Oct 23, 2026, the Lanterns finale lands on HBO Oct 4, and then things go quiet until Man of Tomorrow next July. Below that, the list is mostly “in development,” and it’s gotten shorter this year. We’ve split everything into DCU titles (James Gunn and Peter Safran’s shared universe) and Elseworlds or standalone titles, so you always know what connects to what.
Just want to catch up on what’s already out? Our DCU timeline covers the viewing order. This page is only about what’s coming.

Still coming in 2026
Lanterns season 1 finale (Oct 4, HBO)
Not a new release, but it’s the last new DCU episode of the year. The eight-episode run wraps Oct 4 on HBO and HBO Max. Our take: if you’ve been waiting to binge it, that’s your weekend. Our Lanterns season 1 review has our full thoughts.
Clayface (Oct 23, theaters)
The DCU’s third movie and its first R-rated one. James Watkins directs, Tom Rhys Harries plays Matt Hagen, and it’s pure body horror dropped the week before Halloween. Gunn has said it’s set before Superman, so it works with zero homework. Our take: this is the one to watch for where the DCU goes next. A cheap, weird hit would open the door to more one-offs. Our Clayface release date and cast guide has tickets, runtime and the full cast.
Batman: Knightfall Part 2: Knightquest (late 2026, digital)
Not DC Studios, and not DCU. This is the middle chapter of Warner Bros. Animation’s three-part Knightfall adaptation, where Jean-Paul Valley takes over the cowl. The official trailer dropped for Batman Day, and it’s due later this year with no firm date yet. Part 3 is expected in 2027. Our take: it’s the easiest Batman fix you’ll get while the live-action ones are years out.
Upcoming DC movies and shows in 2027
Man of Tomorrow (Jul 9, 2027, theaters)
Gunn’s Superman sequel is the big one. It’s dated for Jul 9, 2027, and Gunn wrapped principal photography in August. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are back as Superman and Lex Luthor, with Lars Eidinger as Brainiac. Our take: after Supergirl, this is the movie the whole DCU is leaning on. It’s the only DCU project with a date after Clayface.
Creature Commandos season 2 (late 2027, HBO Max)
The animated series that kicked off the DCU is in production. Asked about timing, Gunn said it “won’t be long after” Man of Tomorrow. So think second half of 2027, but that’s our read, not a date.
The People v. Gorilla Grodd (2027 at the earliest, HBO Max)
An eight-episode true-crime spoof from the American Vandal creators, with Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen digging into Jimmy Tatro’s Grodd. It’s shooting now, and Gunn said on Threads that it’s set after Man of Tomorrow “and won’t come out until then.” Our take: honestly the most original pitch on the whole slate.
2028 and beyond
The Batman Part II (Feb 18, 2028, theaters, Elseworlds)
Matt Reeves’ sequel is not part of the DCU. It moved from Oct 1, 2027 to Feb 18, 2028 in July, when Reeves shared a short camera test of Robert Pattinson back in the suit. Our take: Presidents’ Day weekend is a strong slot, but this is the latest in a long run of delays for a film first dated for Oct 2025.
Dynamic Duo (Sep 22, 2028, theaters)
An animated movie about Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, made with puppetry, stop-motion and CGI. Warner Bros. just moved it from Jun 30 to Sep 22, 2028 as a back-to-school release. It’s a DC Studios production, but its place in the DCU hasn’t been spelled out clearly, so we’re listing it on its own. Our take: the first footage at Annecy got people talking, so the wait stings.
In development, no dates
- The Brave and the Bold. The DCU’s own Batman and Robin movie. Andy Muschietti is attached to direct and Christina Hodson was hired to write it in January. No Batman cast yet.
- Wonder Woman and Teen Titans. Both are being written by Supergirl screenwriter Ana Nogueira, who talked through their status with Variety. Gunn said in May he’s “not talking to any directors quite yet” for Teen Titans.
- Swamp Thing. Still alive, still waiting on James Mangold, who hasn’t delivered a script.
- Lanterns season 2. A writers’ room is working on pitches, but HBO hasn’t ordered it, despite the show having DC Studios’ biggest HBO Max premiere.
Off the list: Waller and the Themyscira series Paradise Lost are no longer in active development. HBO passed on Booster Gold in July, and Sgt. Rock stopped moving forward in 2025. There’s also no Peacemaker season 3 on the books; the most Gunn has offered lately is a cryptic reply.
Let’s be real: the DC slate is thinning out
We like a lot of what Gunn and Safran are building. But look at that table again, because the pattern’s hard to miss.
- Supergirl changed the math. It opened to $37 million and finished around $126 million worldwide on a $170 million budget, per The Numbers, with a 77% second-weekend drop. Safran admitted it “didn’t meet our box office expectations.” That puts a lot of pressure on a horror movie that cost in the mid-$40 million range and one Superman sequel.
- HBO is pumping the brakes. Asked by Deadline whether anything else from DC is in active TV development, HBO boss Casey Bloys said “No, not right now,” pointing only to Gorilla Grodd. For a universe that was pitched as film and TV working together, that’s a big shift.
- The nine-month gap. After Clayface on Oct 23, there’s no new DCU movie or show dated until Man of Tomorrow on Jul 9, 2027. That’s a long time for a young universe to go quiet.
- The Batman problem, again. The only live-action Batman with a date is Reeves’, and it isn’t in the DCU. The DCU’s own Batman just got a writer this year. Casual fans are going to be confused, and we don’t blame them.
- A chunk of the announced slate is gone or stalled. Waller, Paradise Lost, Booster Gold and Sgt. Rock are all off the board, and Swamp Thing still has no script. Announcing a slate is the easy part.
To be fair, a smaller slate isn’t automatically bad. Marvel’s “more is more” years are a pretty good argument for fewer, better projects. And “don’t make it until the script’s ready” is the rule Gunn has pitched from day one. But right now the DCU’s whole 2027 depends on one movie. If Clayface overdelivers, that changes the conversation fast.
