Paramount’s live-action version of Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer will be in theaters on August 2nd, 2019. Isabella Moner will play the title character, Dora. Eva Longoria has been cast as her mother, Elena ‘Mami’ Marquez.
Longoria is well known for her roles in Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Desperate Housewives. She also starred in the film Overboard and Dog Days released earlier this year. Longoria has her own production company, UnbeliEVAble Entertainment that’s producing ABC’s Grand Hotel. She’s also executive produced Devious Maids (Lifetime) and Telenovela (NBC).
Dora the Explorer has been on the plate at Paramount for three years. The film is being produced by Kristin Burr, and executive produced by John G. Scotti, Julia Pistor, and Eugenio Derbez who is apart of the cast. The film also co-stars Mickie Moreno, Nicholas Coombe, Madeleine Madden, Adriana Barraza, and Temuera Morrison. The film is being directed by James Bobin(The Muppets/Muppets Most Wanted), and was written by Nick Stoller (Storks/Neighbors). Paramount’s Players division is developing the film, most likely the same division that will develop the live-action Rugrats film.
This film will somewhat follow along with the Nickelodeon cartoon. The TV show ran 172 episodes from 2000-2014, and was about a young Latina child going on adventures. This film will be about a young teenage Dora who will go on an adventure with a group of friends to solve a mystery and save her parents.
