The Hollywood market is boasting an ever growing number of sequels, reboots and spinoffs, and while there might be desire among many for more original films, the trend has shown no signs of slowing down. Many films released over the years have helped reignite long dormant franchises, and the beloved 21 Jump Street looks set to get the reboot treatment.
According to Variety, Sony is gearing up to produce a female-led spinoff of 21 Jump Street. There’s no word on whether or not franchise directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will return, but it’d be safe to assume they’ll be involved in some capacity. It’s uncertain if Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will make an appearance, but even a cameo from at least one of the two would be a treat.
“The north star for us is wanting our movies to feel different, not done before, not recycled,” said Columbia Pictures president Sandord Panitch. “Because of the volume of streaming content out there and television content, we spend a lot of time around here talking about a movie’s theatricality and making sure we believe it achieves cinema worthiness.”
