‘The Shallows’ director Jaume Collet-Serra was thought to be the favorite to direct ‘Suicide Squad 2’ only to back out and move onto his next project, Disney’s ‘Jungle Cruise’.
Collet-Serra saw an opportunity to work with Dwayne Johnson was too good to pass up on.
According to Deadline, Collet-Serra decided that “the opportunity to originate a new Indiana Jones-like action-adventure franchise” with one of the world’s biggest stars is more appealing than stepping behind the camera of a sequel.
‘Jungle Cruise’ gets its inspiration from the 1930s British exploration party style river boat cruise that takes place at Disney’s theme park.
Deadshot’s Will Smith, Harley Quinn’s Margot Robbie and the Joker’s Jared Leto are expected to return for the Suicide Squad sequel.
‘Suicide Squad 2’ will continue their search for a new director as ‘Suicide Squad’ director, David Ayer, is attached to direct the spinoff, ‘Gotham City Sirens’ starring Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
