Avengers: Infinity War is arriving this Friday and many of its stars find themselves in the midst of a press tour promoting the film. Many of the stars of the film have been paired up in interviews, such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Holland (who play Doctor Strange and Spider-Man respectively). The pair seems to like each other a lot, as they’ve expressed mutual interest in seeing their characters team-up on screen after Avengers: Infinity War. In an interview with ScreenRant during the press junket, Cumberbatch and Holland both expressed their interest in seeing the Sorcerer Supreme and the web shooting wall-crawler team-up in a future endeavor:
ScreenRant: But both of you guys are New York heroes, you guys are both from New York City, right? Right around the corner from each other.
Holland: Queens versus Manhattan.
Cumberbatch: It’s about building bridges rather than walls.
SR: It’s true. Would you guys like to see you guys team up in future properties?
Cumberbatch: Definitely.
Holland: 100%.
Cumberbatch: And even if it is, you know, doing a coffee run for one another or just like hanging out or we’ll go play ball in the park or it’s doing every day, start picking up our laundry. I would really like that to be expanded to something really fantastic.
Holland went as far as to throw some ideas of how the interaction could be like, as he threw this idea out:
Holland: I came up with an idea the other day that will never happen. Peter Parker is at school, has a mad, mad headache, rings up someone and says “I just really need your help. It’s really important.” And then a voice says “OK”, and then he goes over to your house and your dressed up as Doctor Strange and you’re ready to do business. And I’m like, “I have a headache. Do you know what this is?” And I, because you’re a brain surgeon so you think I need you to like save the world again, but really I just need your doctor expertise I just need you to be a doctor.
It’s important to note that it’s been previously mentioned that Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is supposedly set to feature another MCU hero not named Iron Man. Doctor Strange could easily be that hero, especially considering how they’re both located in New York and their relationship seems to blossom in Avengers: Infinity War by the looks of the trailers. In terms of the Doctor Strange side of things, there still hasn’t been confirmation on whether there will be a sequel or not. It’s highly probable there will be a sequel due to the reception of the first film and its box office success, so if Strange does indeed appear in a Spider-Man sequel, don’t expect it to be his last appearance.
What are your thoughts on this? Would you like to see Holland and Cumberbatch team up in a future MCU endeavor? Let us know over at @SuperBroMovies and in the comments below!
